Education
The Energy Institute helps train the energy leaders of tomorrow by encouraging the availability of energy-related courses in schools and departments across campus. The Institute oversees the interdisciplinary Graduate Portfolio Program in Energy Studies, which gives students a broad picture of the energy field from an overall policy perspective.
The Energy Institute also hosts the weekly UT Energy Symposium and annual UT Energy Week in order to connect students with leading energy experts in academia, government, industry, and the non-profit world.
Graduate Portfolio Program in Energy Studies (GPPES)
The Graduate Portfolio Program in Energy Studies (GPPES) takes an interdisciplinary approach designed to give students a broad picture of the energy field that considers energy issues from an overall policy perspective, based on an understanding of the technological and environmental pressures involved.
UT Energy Symposium
In an effort to provide a multi-disciplinary platform for UT faculty and students to interact on the most pressing energy issues facing our world, the Energy Institute sponsors the UT Energy Symposium (UTES).
UT Energy Week
The Energy Institute co-hosts an annual gathering of energy experts from academia, industry, government and the non-profit world to explore vital energy issues and provide a forum for faculty members and students to showcase their research.
UT Energy Institute Student Hub
The UTEI Student Hub showcases clubs, events, and opportunities for students of all disciplines interested in creating solutions to energy challenges.
Energy Ventures Practicum
This advanced entrepreneurship course focuses on unique challenges in the energy industry. Energy Ventures aims to educate entrepreneurs through hands-on experience, where students pitch and develop ideas from labs and companies throughout the semester, ultimately creating viable plans for commercialization.
Energy Calculators
Explore useful energy resources such as the Energy Futures Dashboard and calculators for Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) in the United States by County and Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) with Environmental Costs.
UT Chevron Energy Graduate Fellows Awards
Chevron made a generous gift to The University of Texas at Austin to establish the Chevron Energy Graduate Fellowship Endowment. Each academic year, the endowment will provide $10,000 awards to several outstanding graduate students working on energy systems research. Awardees will be selected via a competitive application process.
TEX-E: Texas Entrepreneurship Exchange for Energy
TEX-E is a first-of-a-kind collaboration among The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, University of Houston, Rice University, and Prairie View A&M University—powered by Greentown Labs and MIT’s Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship—to create a powerful student-driven entrepreneurship ecosystem in Texas.
